Warnings

  • Contraindicated in allergy to Cinnamon or Peruvian balsam.
  • Discontinue if conception occurs.
  • May cause hyperaesthesia in some sensitive individuals especially when combined with a high exposure to sunlight.
  • St John’s Wort is not advisable in cases of known photosensitivity and in those taking photosensitising agents. Patients taking high doses should avoid excessive exposure to sunlight and UV radiation.
  • St John’s Wort affects the way some prescription medicines work. Concurrent administration of high doses of St John’s is contraindicated with the following drugs: warfarin, digoxin, immunosuppressive drugs such as cyclosporin, indinavir (HIV protease inhibitor), nevirapine (HIV nonnucleoside transcriptase inhibitor), docetaxel by injection, phenprocoumon, nifedipine, methadone, finasteride, clozapine, cancer chemotherapeutic drugs such as irinotecan and calcium channel antagonists such as verapamil.
  • Caution is advised in patients taking other drug medications, included combined oral contraceptives.
  • Consume at least 2 hours away from ingestion of mineral supplements.
  • Due to Licorice: caution is advised in those taking thiazide or loop diuretics, and in those with elevated liver enzymes taking immunosuppressives; contraindicated in hypertension and oedema.
  • Caution is advised in patients taking statin drugs.
  • Discontinue 7 days prior to general anaesthesia.
