How it works

Elecampane and white horehound: traditionally used in Western herbal medicine to relieve coughs

In Western herbal medicine, the herbs elecampane and white horehound are traditionally used to ease mild bronchial coughs.

Elecampane is also traditionally regarded as a lung tonic in Western herbal medicine, and is taken as an expectorant (in other words, to promote the expulsion of mucus from the lungs) to clear bronchial mucous congestion.

White horehound is traditionally taken for spasmodic, dry or unproductive coughs in Western herbal medicine.

Balloonflower: traditionally taken to relieve coughs in TCM

Balloonflower is traditionally regarded as having expectorant properties in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) where it’s used to relieve coughs that occur as a result of common colds.

Chinese licorice: traditional support for healthy lung function in TCM

In Chinese medicine, the lungs are understood to function at their best when they have enough moisture, and to be adversely affected by dryness. Chinese licorice is traditionally used in TCM to moisten the lungs to support lung health, as well as to soothe bronchial airway irritation, and to clear phlegm associated with productive coughs.

Oriental Botanicals Bronchelix also contains thyme oil, stemona, houttuynia and balloonflower.

Also available as Bronchelix herbal liquid.
